FRENCH ISLAND TOURS

  • HIDDEN GEM NEAR MELBOURNE

"I thoroughly enjoyed exploring French Island with Steve, our guide from Naturiste Tours. The ferry was quick and smooth and I felt relaxed and comfortable in the four-wheel-drive vehicle which we explored the island in. It was great spotting the koalas and I was delighted to see my first echidna. Steve gave us a great insight into the lives of the French Islanders and his passion for the island is obvious."

LOVELY TOUR OF A TRULY SPECIAL PLACE

"It is quite amazing that such a quiet place as French Island exists so close to Melbourne. It felt like stepping back in time with very few people around despite visiting on a long weekend. It was fascinating to hear and see the history, and the untouched nature of much of the island. David our tour guide was lovely and went out of his way to provide relevant commentary and answer our questions. It really provided a great insight into the local residents unique lifestyle. The koala spotting (with numerous koalas spotted) and then going to the bridge of the ferry to end the tour was a nice way to end the day. Highly recommended."

    A QUIET GEM

"Naturaliste Tours is a great way to get a glimpse of the natural bushland and coastal areas inside the large national park (2/3 of the island) as well as seeing the farmlands and community. Our wonderful guide Linda is a “local”, of 10 years standing, is passionate about the island and has a sound understanding of the need to balance the beautiful natural assets of the island and sharing them with visitors. We now know so much more about French Island, and it’s history, and thanks to Linda can understand why the locals are so keen to protect the island. Our tour was comfortable in the 4WD transporter, perfect for the unmade roads, with enough height to give good viewing. We would like to come back in the spring for the wildflowers, orchids and birds."

    THE VIEWS WERE WONDERFUL

"A lovely day for a ferry trip and a ride in an Oka on French Island. Interesting to visit as it gives an overview of Island life - isolated from the mainland except for ferry and barge - no electricity, no mains water, no made roads and one shop but the views were wonderful, the habitat diverse and the koalas cute. Farmland, swamp, woodland and beaches - we saw it all. Thank you for an interesting morning."
